Resurfacing | Sophia Judge

RESURFACING

the memories are misbehaving
jostling and rearranging
hiding behind corrupted copies
of themselves throwing their
pages across a cluttered desk
surfacing wildly and without
compassion—

tearless heaving
in the chapel rectory, plywood
flooring, tired paddling down
the Erie Canal, written confessions,
a brown suede jacket, the rabbit
that launches itself at a screen glass door
again and again until blood seeps
from her nostrils
